During the summer of 2002 a “child” was born (actually just an idea!) Dagny wanted to further express and share her love of old and primitive “stuff”, so began the search for an old building to house a shop. Once the ideal structure was found, the full realization of the task ahead sunk in and Dagny started recruiting.

So…Janis (Dagny’s mum who was recently retired from education) naively offered assistance. Dagny’s daughter Moryah, who was six at the time, and learning at home, (even to this day she has never been enrolled in a school) joined the team as a junior partner.

That is the story of our roots (in third person).

Today we are still a team of three generations plus four part-time staff. Ellie and Patty share hours in the shop doing almost anything. Peter and Richard are our “whatever we need” guys-from construction to destruction; from heating to air conditioning.

Moryah does her “bookwork” at the shop, then carries out her regular duties. She helps unpack product, price, create, serve customers, answer phones, wrap, run the cash register and generally help wherever she can. What an amazing learning environment!

As for us, Dagny and Janis, we get to do all of the fun stuff like bookkeeping, budgets and all that stuff you don’t want to hear about.
